⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miss Matty Mathers is very happy in her work as a governess,  much to the dismay of her mother and sister.  One of the girls she looks after comes to her with a problem.  Hopefully Matty can help her.
Mr Francis has worked for the English Crown for many years, even though England is not the land of his birth.  He can blend into many situations. Our hero is feeling the pressure from his way of life and gets a little careless.
A very exciting historical romance with a mystery to solve.  This book is part of a series and if you have read any of the previous stories you will recognise some of the characters.  However you can easily enjoy each book on it's own.  They are all full of fabulous characters and lots fun.
I have loved all of them.

Mary Lancaster's first love was historical fiction. Since then she has grown to love coffee, chocolate, red wine and black and white films - simultaneously where possible. She hates housework.

As a direct consequence of the first love, she studied history at St. Andrews University, after which she worked variously as editorial assistant, researcher and librarian. Although she has always written stories for her own entertainment, she began to make serious efforts toward publication in order to distract herself from a job she disliked. She now writes full time at her seaside home in Scotland, which she shares with her husband and three children.

Highland Justice (Sons of Sinclair #3) by Heather McCollum. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Without mercy, there is no love in this third installment of the Sons of Sinclair historical romance series by award-winning author Heather McCollum.

Gideon Sinclair, the third Sinclair brother, judges everything in stark terms of good and evil. There is nothing in between, and he is efficient at passing judgment without mercy. Now that his clan has conquered the warring MacKays, Gideon starts the process of integrating them into the Sinclair Clan. He will sort the people, punish the bad, and better the lives of the good. Judging is as easy to him as breathing, until he meets Christina MacKay, who steals his breath...along with his Sinclair ring.

A young widow, Christina MacKay has given her life over to helping the orphaned children in the clan. But love won’t put shoes on their cold feet and food in their stomachs. Christina tired years ago of seeing the rich get richer and the poor suffer more and more, so she decided to do something about it. An agile thief of the rich by night, when she is caught, the new conquering chief must decide her fate.

When Gideon realizes that the thief is the same woman who had already captured his attention, he hesitates for the first time in his life. Letting her get away with her deed leads to more trouble when she is accused of stealing from King James and is arrested. Now Gideon must commit his own crime against the Scottish crown if he is to save Christina. But can a man who was raised to honor and uphold justice break the law for the woman who’s stolen his heart?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Gideon Sinclair is the third of the an brothers.  The MacKay clan has been conquered and he is in the process of trying to bring peace between them and the Sinclairs.  Known as the Horseman of Justice he will use his knowledge of law and many years training to judge the actions of others.  Our hero tends to see people as right or wrong, no inbetween.  He is the ultimate judge.
Cait MacKay is a young widow who has taken in orphaned or abandoned children.  She will do anything to keep them fed and healthy,  even if it means breaking the law.  Our heroine has a few very surprising talents.  Keeping her children out of trouble is not one of them unfortunately.
A marvelous, action packed historical romance.  Wonderful characters that will keep you hooked in the story from the first to last page.  You can read this book on it's own, but I personally think that it's better to read as a series in order.  Just because there is so much happening it can't fit into one book.  You will definitely want to know about the other Horseman brothers.
I loved it.

WolfeShield (De Wolfe Pack Generations #6) by Kathryn Le Veque. Medieval Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Sometimes, men are impulsive in life and love. When Ronan de Wolfe, son of James de Wolfe (A Wolfe Among Dragons), marries young and impulsively, the consequences will prove to be disastrous when he meets the love of his life.

Will de Wolfe honor stand the test? Or will true love crush a man of good character?

Ronan de Wolfe, the mild-mannered but powerful son of James de Wolfe, married on a whim against the advice of his father and grandfather. He married into the powerful Northumberland de Grey family, a family that rivals the House of de Wolfe in both strength and wealth. Coerced by a cunning de Grey father, Ronan found himself married before he knew what happened.

The years pass. Ronan is married and miserable. His wife has lovers, shaming both houses. Children are born, but they are not Ronan’s. With some measure of peace on the England/Scotland borders, Ronan amuses himself in local tournaments to get away from his horrible home life. Along with his best friend, they enjoy celebrity status of the great tournament champions, but when his friend is mortally wounded and asks Ronan to take care of his pregnant wife, the situation changes drastically.

Ronan meets the woman he should have married.

Isabeth de Brito is a beautiful woman from a minor noble family. Pregnant with her dead husband’s child, she and Ronan form a strong friendship as he tends to her every need, but in Ronan’s case, it is much more. Friendship turns to love. When Ronan’s petty, foolish wife realizes Ronan is paying attention to another woman, innocent as it is, the claws come out. Her powerful family can ruin Isabeth and her family—permanently.

When Ronan’s father is forced into finding Isabeth another husband, Ronan can only stand by and watch the woman he loves as she is courted by another man.

Will there be a happily ever after for Ronan and Isabeth? Or will Ronan have to watch his love marry another?

It’s another wild ride for de Wolfe Pack Generations.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As a young man Ronan de Wolfe was seduced by a high born woman and forced by her powerful family to marry her.  This has proved to be a disaster for him.  He is a proud and honourable man who keeps his vows.  Unfortunately everyone knows his wife is completely opposite.  None of her three daughters belong to him, and she sleeps with any man who takes her fancy.
Our hero tries his best to ignore his wife's behaviour, but there will come a time he can't.
Isabeth de Brito married young.  Her husband worships the ground she walks on,  and she is a grateful and obedient wife.  When her husband dies unexpectedly her life changes drastically. Our heroine might have been treated like fragile glass,  but she is anything but.  Her fire irons occasionally come in handy.
This is a wonderful medieval romance with characters that you will fall in love with easily.  You will need the box of tissues handy.  Our author has the habit of wringing every drop of emotion out of us be it laughter or tears. This book certainly does that.  The de Wolfe family will be very well known to regular readers of this author,  but each family member has a very different story,  and every book is original, thoroughly entertaining and impossible to put down.  You will be very surprised at how this particular love story unfolds.
An absolutely fabulous book.
I loved every page.

A Governess of Wise Years (The Governess Bureau #6) by Emily E.K. Murdoch. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

The Governess Bureau is about to close – but Miss Vivienne Clarke has one chance to redeem it, and herself.

Scandal. Intrigue. Love matches. The Governess Bureau was never supposed to be full of these things, but over the last few years, no fewer than five matches have been made.

It’s something the proprietress, Miss Vivienne Clarke, simply cannot allow to continue.

With only one client remaining for the previously esteemed Governess Bureau now it has been called into disrepute, Vivienne has no choice but to take on the assignment herself; Caring for the daughter of Edwin, Viscount Bysshe.
It would be so much easier if she had not turned down his offer of marriage fifteen years ago.

Edwin wouldn’t consider himself a man who carries a grudge, he just wants to prove to the world that Miss Clarke is incompetent and her whole Bureau idea is a scam. After all, she chose it over him all those years ago. Besides, he has secrets to hide about his daughter, and her mysterious origins.

All Vivienne wants to do is salvage her reputation, restore her business, and return to London with her heart intact.
She’s a governess of wise years, but is that enough to save herself from even more heartbreak?

This full length novel is a steamy Regency romance with a happily ever after, no cliffhangers, and is part of a series that can be read in any order.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miss Vivienne Clarke is very upset.  After so many of the employees from her Governess Bureau have broken her rules,  the business and herself are being blamed and destroyed in the gossip sheets.  She has one more post to fill and only the last governess.  This will be either the end, or recovery of her life's work.
Edwin Viscount Bysshe and his daughter can't seem to agree on anything, not even what she calls him.  It's time for her to have a governess. Whether she wants one or not.
Our lead characters have a personal history that is going to cause all sorts of problems.
A lively and amusing historical romance that is the final instalment of a fabulous series of stand alone stories.  I have read and enjoyed every one of them.
I'm looking forward to what ever this author will bring us next.
Great fun.

Ruff Justice ( Ruff Wooing #2) by Anna Markland. Historical Romance (Tudor) Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Like his father and brother before him, Julian Hawke is a well-respected London goldsmith—and an informant for Elizabeth Tudor’s Spymaster. But he craves the challenge of a more significant role in espionage. As part of a plan to trap the imprisoned Mary of Scotland in treasonous activities, he is sent to France as a double agent. His mission is to deliver false documents to the exiled Thomas Morcant, one of the Scottish queen’s stalwart supporters and a suspect in the attempted murder of Julian’s brother.
Things go awry in Paris when Julian meets Morcant’s sister. He is drawn to her but assumes she has come to France as a courier for Mary.

Sara Morcant has travelled to Paris in a last-ditch effort to dissuade her older brother from involvement in the plot to put the Scottish queen on the English throne. She finds herself falling for Julian Hawke but, when she discovers he has met with her brother, fears he must be a courier for the traitors plotting Elizabeth’s overthrow.

Untangling the web of intrigue in which they are mired could implicate them both in the deadly plot to assassinate Elizabeth Tudor and lead to arrest and execution.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Julian Hawke is a talented Goldsmith and like his father and brother before him, an informer for the Crown. Unfortunately the Queen's spy master pushes him to get a bit more than just information this time.
Our hero is not really cut out for the work of a spy, but nobody can say no when the spy master calls.
Sara Morcant and her little brother are in Paris to see their older brother who has been imprisoned in the Bastille. Our heroine is trying to make her brother see how much danger he has put them all in, but he's a very stubborn man.
This is an action packed historical romance is set in Queen Elizabeth's troubled Reign.  The politics of the time and the troubles caused by religion are very well described and make for exciting reading.  Our sexy hero has his own secrets to hide.
This is the second book in the series but as there are a few years between the settings, you don't need to have read the first to enjoy this one.  It would help to understand the relationship our goldsmiths have with the spy master though.
I loved it.

I’m a Canadian author with a keen interest in genealogy. I write medieval romance about family honour, ancestry, and roots. My novels are intimate love stories full of passion and adventure.

Passion conquers whatever obstacles a hostile medieval world can throw in its path. My page-turning adventures have earned me a place on Amazon’s All-Star list.

Besides writing, I have two addictions-crosswords and genealogy, probably the reason I love research. I am a fool for cats. My husband is an entrepreneur who is fond of boasting he’s never had a job.

I live on Canada’s scenic west coast now, but I was born and raised in the UK and I love breathing life into the history of my homeland.

Shocked and hoping to save her brother, Olivia agrees to help the persuasive earl. But they closer they get to uncovering the villains, the more Alec and Olivia will need to trust each other.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Alexander Sinclair,  Earl of St. James works with the Home Office and is trying to track those responsible for the attempt to kill the Prime Minister. Our hero has had an unhappy childhood and those memories make him see people as either good or bad,  no in between.
Miss Olivia Everett is a teacher and manager of a school for girls.  Her reputation must stay completely spotless or she could damage the school.  If people knew the secret she hides all could be lost.
This historical romance does follow on from the previous books in the series,  but you can still read and enjoy it on it's own.  All the characters have plenty of depth.  There is a lot of and danger a mystery to solve.  A very exciting story and I will definitely be reading the next one.

I fell in love with historical romances and all things Regency—and especially all those dashing Regency heroes—while living in England, where I spent most of my time studying the Romantic poets, reading Jane Austen, and getting lost all over the English countryside.

When I read my first Regency romance in 2012, I was hooked and longed to create my own independent and spirited heroines and dashing heroes. The best part of writing historical romances is falling into history—to live in the world of Regency England through my characters, with dazzling balls, beautiful dresses, and gorgeous houses that I would otherwise never be able to experience. I love the period’s rich history and find that all those rules of etiquette and propriety can be worked to the heroine’s advantage…if she’s daring enough to seize her dreams.

In addition to earning my degrees in the U.S., I have studied theatre in London, Mexican history in Guadalajara, and Spanish in Ecuador. I am an avid traveler and have enjoyed visiting schools and volunteering with children's organizations in Peru, Ecuador, Thailand, and Mexico, and I have amassed thousands of photos I unleash on unsuspecting friends who dare to ask about my travels.

I love to be outdoors! I've been hiking in Alaska, the Andes, and the Alps, including one week spent dangling off the via ferrata in the Italian Dolomites, and I love whitewater rafting (when I don't fall in!). I earned my pilot’s license at Chicago Midway (To all the controllers in Chicago Center—I greatly apologize for every problem I caused for you and Southwest Airlines), and it is my dream to one-day fly in a hot-air balloon over Africa.

I adore all things chocolate, shamelessly dive into ice cream of any flavor, and guzzle Kona coffee by the gallon. A Doctor Who fanatic (everyone says my house is bigger on the inside), I am a terrible cook who hopes to one day use my oven for something other than shoe storage. When I'm not writing, I like to spend my time trying not to kill the innocent rose bushes in my garden.

When he inherited the title Earl of Rosemont, he was left not only a rundown estate and a mountain of debts, but his brother’s two young children. Now he must find a way to raise his two nieces, keep his estate afloat, and continue his dangerous undercover work.

The only way he can see to manage it is for Lady Cassandra to accept his proposal. But can he keep her from falling in love with him, so her heart doesn’t break when he leaves her a widow?

Men of Valor
- A Love For All Time
- A Love that Knows no Bounds
- A Love that's Worth the Risk

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Colonel Quentin Beckham has just inherited the title of Earl of Rosemont.  It brings him a lot more responsibilities than he ever thought it would.  Not the least of them being two very young nieces. Unfortunately the estate is also heavily in debt.
Our hero work for the Crown is extremely important to him and the country.  He has no intention of giving it up.
Lady Cassandra Worth was humiliated years ago by a man she loved and never intends to risk her heart again.
Our heroine is a very wealthy heiress,  but that puts her at risk even from her own family.  Her grandmother decided to do all she can to protect her.
A sweet historical romance that is very emotional at times.  I personally though both our lead characters a bit self-centered and dependant on others for their happiness.  There is quite a shock at the end.
Entertaining read.

Second Sons of London

Dubious about the Duke
Valued by the Viscount
Meant for the Marquess

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lady Tessa Foster is having her come out into Society a few years late,  because she was caring for her parents.  Now they have died and she's living with her cousin and her family.  The girls grew up together and are great friends.  Our heroine is a brave,  intelligent and kind woman.
Major Spencer Haddock grew up as a second son,  totally ignored by his father.  The friends he made in school and in the army have been his family.  First his brother and now his father have died and he is Earl of Middlefield.
Our hero is thrust into a life he wasn't prepared for.  He's decided to go to the season to find a bride quickly and return to his estate.
This is a historical romance filled with fun and lovely characters.  It is the start of a series that I will definitely be reading more of.
Good fun.
